Session A

Michele Crockett, IBCLC
Pregnancy Aid-WIC Breastfeeding Promotion Coordinator
- 8:10-8:30 Care for the Journey
Becky Weiderstrom RNC-OB, BSN - Care for the Journey has been called “a new classic in the field of integrative medicine” and “a primary resource for health professionals”. Utilized by leading hospitals and hospices throughout the US and internationally
- 8:30-9:30 Breastfeeding Biases & Cultural Influences
- A care provider’s personal experiences, beliefs and cultural influences can impact the care they provide. Being aware of their biases can assist the care provider in providing evidence-based care.
- 9:30-9:45 BREAK
- 9:45-10:45 10 Steps-the Science Behind The Philosophy
- The BFHI may seem like a nice thing to do however there is mounting evidence indicating that the care a mother and infant receive during birth and early post-partum has a life-long impact.
- 10:45-11:45 Breastfeeding & the Late Pre Term/Pre Term Baby
- The initiation of successful breastfeeding can be especially challenging for smaller, developmentally immature, pre term and late-preterm infants. Proactive lactation support can minimize the challenges and build self-efficacy in the mother.
- 11:45-12:45 Closing: Breast Is Best
- A video about breastfeeding, mother’s milk, and early contact with the newborn. We see women at ease with their bodies and mothers and babies treated with respect for their skills in nourishing and seeking nourishment.
- 12:45-1:30 Lunch
- Lunch will NOT be provided for this seminar. You are welcome to bring your lunch or purchase lunch at the hospital cafeteria which will be aware that a large group is attending.
