The speaker will elaborate on each nutrient to identify its food sources, recommended daily intake, locating it on the nutrition facts label, and its function during pregnancy and lactation. Second, we will explore potential complications of a suboptimal prenatal diet. Specifically, this presentation will identify how pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia, preterm labor, and/or gestational diabetes can impact breastfeeding during the postpartum period. Finally, we will highlight the use of galactagogues to potentially increase milk supply and provide ideas for how to incorporate them into recipes. The speaker will also briefly review foods which may suppress milk supply. |
